I use one trick in Firefox more than any other, I think. When a new tab is opened, the url bar is automatically given focus. That means that if you start typing, you will be typing where the web site’s address goes. Firefox does three things, in this following order:
- find a bookmark that you are referencing
- find a website you are referencing
- Google (actually “I’m-Feeling-Lucky”) the term you typed
Here is an example. First, I have a bookmark for the facebook. No shock there. I have the description “fb” typed in firefox (image to the right). Now I press enter and facebook comes up.
For a new example, suppose I now want to find the first site for Dr. Dre, my dear friend. Now instead of “fb” I type “dr dre” and boom, I’m Feeling Lucky gives me his Wikipedia entry. Try it. Go to google.com, type in anything at all and then click I’m Feeling Lucky. You will get them same result as typing that same thing into the bar.
