I was just checking out Wolf Blitzer in the situation room, and a nice little tech story came up. Apparently, Google has been storing information about its users to use against them! The report notes that Google’s new push of its personalized search requires users to ‘opt in’ (which you should d0), but still, many feel that the information the giant stores, or more specifically, Google’s continued unwillingness to say exactly what information they store, constitutes a flagrant invasion of our privacy.
That might be the worst criticism of Google I can think of. You have to opt in, so you choose to participate. They collect things like what web pages you visit, not what your bank account number is. And did I mention that you have to OPT IN.
Still, sites like epic.org argue that Google has more information than they should. Hello, they are a private company. Wake up and get concerned about, oh, I don’t know, your government. You can’t opt in to that.
