My Summer Trip

I just got back from a 6-week long trip this summer, and I wanted to share as many details as possible with as many people as possible, so I decided to type it up.  Unfortunately, I didn’t decide to write it down until about halfway through the trip.

So now I am going to type it all up.  I will try to post each date’s activities on that day, so that I can try and keep the timeline accurate.

Here’s an overview of the trip:

Weeks 1 through 3: Trip across Asia.  I went with my friend Sam who goes to Vanderbilt, and his three roommates, Kei, Paul and Mike.

Week 4: Spain with my family: mom, dad and sister, Julia.

Week 5: Europe with two friends from school, Jake and Danny.

Week 6: A house on Lake Como called Villa Lucertola, owned by my friend Harry Guinness.

Then back home.

Hi – we are looking to stay at Villa Lucertola in July next year and would be really interested to find out more about your stay there. I’ve seen pictures on the web and notice that it is down from a main road and wondered if it is noisy. Also, how you found getting around from the Villa?

I’d be happy to share more. As it so happens I just got back from a second trip so the details are fresh in my mind.

The main road is a little ways up. During the day, you can occasionally hear buses as they honk at other drivers while they drive by. I zoned it out after one day to be honest, but you can definitely hear them. Other than that, you are completely secluded. There is no point on the road where you can be seen, and once you’re in the Villa, you feel very much like you are in your own little world. Also, there is no noise at all during the night, except for the sound of the lake of course.

As far as getting around, you have basically 3 options. When we went to town (Bellagio) we usually took the boat, since it’s only a few minutes away. One time we drove, since one of the guys had driven from London, and we had a car. The third option is the bus, which is how I got to the Villa. It i pretty timely, though it’s much easier to get to the Villa rather than from, since the stop to pick it up is a little ways away. All of those are pretty easy to do if you want to get around. Bellagio is definitely a nice, quick day trip, and the town of Como is much more of an all-day adventure. There are also many towns across the lake, which you can get to by ferry if you want to drive or by boat. I think we had dinner in Lezzo, which was a very nice source of night life.

Other than that, I have to highly recommend it. The cooks were amazing, and I’ve never felt as relaxed as the day I left. It was unbelievable, both times I’ve gone.
