Commenting vs. Contacting

I notice that some of my readers have been confused by the difference between commenting and contacting, so let me explain the difference.

If you want to write me a personal, private note, use the contact page.  This does not have to be in reference to any specific post, though it can be.  It is similar to writing my email address, but protects me from spam and allows me to distinguish between posts sent through the site and persona emails.

If you want to write a public reaction to one of my posts, then you want to comment.  A comment is part of the public discussion, and other people can see your comments and respond to them.

Note that your method does not alter the chance that I will respond.  I look at each and every comment, and each and every email, and respond to as many as I can.

I hope that helps.
