It is my Dad’s birthday today (Happy Birthday pops) so I thought I would discuss a topic that interests us both: West Wing.
I have watched West Wing on DVD at least 8 times all the way through, and some episodes many, many more times than that. I have occassionally found myself confused as to whether I was watching real events or fictional ones, and even got in a debate about the current state of something or the other, based entirely on a TV show. Sad, I know, but in talking to other people, I have found that many experience this confusion. Shows like the Daily Show blur the line between fact and fiction, and sometimes people cannot tell the difference.
If you live in Washington state, as I do, then you have undoubtedly seen the ads in which Martin Sheen tells us to vote no on Prop 1000 – Death with Dignity. Here’s the clip if you haven’t seen it:

Anyone who has seen West WIng will in immediately recognize Sheen as President Bartlett. He takes off his classes the same in the show, he talks the same, and it works in the show. In fact, it works so well that I immediatley trusted Sheen even though he has absolutely no medical or political knowledge on the matter.
How sad is that?
